The Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve has been working with farmers for a long time to implement innovative measures to protect biodiversity in agriculture. On September 14, ECO²SCAPE therefore invited to a “peer2peer” event. The full-day excursion to the biosphere reserve served as a technical exchange between the farmers of our model region in North Saxony and the farmers of the biosphere reserve on the topic of grassland management and management of special sites. Eva Lehmann from the biosphere reserve administration, together with local farmers, provided insights into projects for the preservation of endangered animal breeds, old grain varieties and arable flowering weeds. The program also included an exchange with a dairy farm with an associated biogas plant and a tour of the farm and bakery. Further “peer2peer” meetings in biosphere reserves are planned once a year as part of the ECO²SCAPE project.
