In April and June 2022, we were in one of the ECO²SCAPE transfer regions, the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve. The biosphere reserve has a long history of working with farmers to ensure the protection of arable flowering weeds in the region. We recorded the occurrence of flowering weeds on three of these ‘protected fields’, which are supported within the framework of the agricultural and environmental climate measure AL6a, and compared them with three conventionally managed areas.
